Week of Prayer:
In the Midst of it All

In a perfect world, I would go out of town to the mountains or some resort whenever I wanted to pray and fast. Leave the kids and hubby at home. Well, maybe just the kids. Ha! When I want to spend more time in prayer and fasting it would be nice if responsibilities and tasks could all just go away. Perhaps one day when I am older this will happen, but right now that is not my reality. I am learning how to dig deeper in my walk with Christ in the midst of household chores, errands, kids, homework, and other tasks. Although I am not spending hours in prayer, I have found practical ways to help me meditate on God’s Word and allow His Spirit to speak to me. On Monday, a sweet friend sent me scriptures to soothing music, and while I ate a quick lunch, I listened and meditated. As I listened to the scriptures and quieted my mind it refreshed me physically and spiritually.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
-Isaiah 9:6(NLT)

You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands!
-Isaiah 55:12(NLT)

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest
-Matthew 11:28(NLT)

These and other scriptures brought tears to my eyes, as I allowed my spirit to be washed and renewed by God’s Word. Each day when I pray and have small meals, I am reminded that nothing sacrificed for my relationship with Christ is in vain. No matter where we are in life or what’s going on, we must always make time for the things of God and his kingdom. Trust me, we make time for things that matter for us, don’t we? Right now, it’s Christmas time and we will make sure to participate in certain festivities with our friends or family. How much more should we set aside time to spend more quality time with our loving Father. He loves you and I soo much! Whether it be more time in worship, Bible study, Christian women’s groups, we must grab hold of whatever it is that draws us closer to God and helps us to fulfill His will for our lives. We can always make one excuse or another…but only what’s done for Christ will last!! If we believe that, we must act like it! So, whatever God has called you to today, do it! Don’t delay! Make time for what matters to God’s kingdom and I promise, He will take good care of you!

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need
-Matthew 6:33
