Make a Decision to Love Like God

Have you ever had a time in your life that truly knocked the wind out of you? You were excited, motivated, and then “it” happened. As believers, we will have times in our lives that things will be very difficult. We all have to deal with difficult life circumstances, but we cannot allow that to be our resting place. When I recently had an issue arise, it took me awhile to process it all. I wrestled between my initial feelings and what my faith told me about the situation at hand. My human nature wanted to take over and allow bitterness, resentment, and fear to be my destination. Even having those thoughts made me ashamed, because I know that God sees my heart. I don't want God to be pleased just because I did not act out physically, but also because inwardly, I kept my thoughts and desires in line with His Word. That my friend, is super tough!!

But, in instances like these, it makes me appreciate God so much more. And it challenges me to do better in responding to what life may throw my way. But at first, I felt weak, as if this thing was just too much… As I prayed and sought God, I realized these are moments to relish not run away from. God loves me despite my moments of doubt, fear, and inadequacy. In the moment where I lose sight of His awesome power, He shows His love. He shows his love by just speaking to ME! Wow! He is a gentle friend, drawing me close and sustaining me through it all. Our God is gracious and in today’s society we often take for granted God’s continuous grace towards us each and every day. We don’t deserve a thing that He gives us. Do you still speak to others after they have hurt you or misunderstood you? We must allow the same love God shows us, to transcend into our daily relationships with others. God’s love is the key to having fulfilled relationships with our family, friends, and acquaintances. Allow God to renew your mind through His Word. Only then, can we obey God and extend the type of love that glorifies Him. God’s love is amazing. Our lives should be a replica of His. Give God’s love lavishly even when it seems to be the hardest thing to do.

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. - Psalm 86:15

Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever. -Psalm 136:26

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.  If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another. - John 15:9-17
