The Blessing of Being Covered

…submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. -Ephesians 5:21

My two-year-old, Titus, always brings a smile to my husband and I when he walks up to us with his favorite blanket in hand. When we see Titus with his blanket we automatically know what is coming next. Titus will typically crawl up next to us or hand us his blanket, which lets us know he wants to be swaddled and tucked. After being covered, Titus is immediately content and relaxed and ready for a peaceful rest. As, I reflected on his security of being covered, I thought about the blessing of having spiritual covering in our lives.

There was a point in my life, when I did not recognize the importance of having a spiritual covering, in my relationship with God and others. But I came to realize that in order to achieve balance and to mature as a humble follower of Christ, seeking a spiritual covering provided those benefits and soo much more! I believe the Lord wants us all to be ongoing students, and to willingly submit to someone other than ourselves who can impart wisdom and who is more mature than we are. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, and although Jesus was perfect, he came to earth to model how to live life best. Jesus in all his righteousness, and without any sin, submitted, and God showed His approval by allowing His Spirit to descend like a dove from heaven upon Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17).

We validate and confirm our calling and gifts through developing a personal relationship with God (2Timothy 2:15; Romans 11:29). We are to seek the Lord’s approval and He will speak to us directly about what He has purposed for our lives. But our gifts and callings do not require us to walk in humility and wisdom, but we can do so with His help. God cares most about the condition of our heart. Because of that, He provides help and accountability to assist us in remaining in proper alignment with Him. This help is there for the taking, only if we allow it. As for me, I want all the help I can get!

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” -Proverbs 11:14

We must continue to seek God individually for guidance and direction. But don’t you also want that “blanket,” the blessing of being covered? God wants us to utilize all the tools He has given us to carry out His will with excellence and much wisdom. Seeking help from spiritual advisors is not a sign of insecurity, but rather, a sign of strength. As we remain in a posture of surrender in our lives, God will do more than we could ever imagine.

Being covered first and foremost by Christ, gives us a blessing of peace, love, and joy in the Holy Spirit. But, my prayer today is that you will tap into the lifelong benefits of being spiritually covered. I am soo grateful for the spiritual covering God has placed in my life. I know God can and He will do the exact same for you, if you so desire. I pray that nothing will hold you back from seeking the uniquely designed covering that God has waiting for you! I believe taking this step will cause you to become an even better asset to God’s Kingdom here on earth! If you haven’t already, place yourself under spiritual leadership and guidance and experience the continuous blessings of being covered!

  1. Awesome post. I like the correlation with Titus and his blanket, to being covered but the LORD. That’s my prayer, that I can have the same peace that Titus has, when I lay down my burdens in front of the LORD.
