Discipline = Your Best Life

We are now three months into the new year and we are still hopeful that some of the goals that we set for ourselves have been achieved, or will be achieved very soon. As I look at my life and those around me, I am praying that God would bless our lives and the work of our hands. I want everyone to experience a truly fulfilled life in every way. I want us to have “the abundance” of God and to see the manifestation of His presence in our lives daily. Having true success is not possible without Jesus occupying the throne of our hearts and having full reign in all our affairs. Once we accept and settle that we want Jesus to be the Lord over our lives, there is still one thing that can prevent us from having the things God wants for us and the very things that we desire most.

Do you desire better health? Do you desire a different career? Do you desire to get out of debt? Do you desire to experience true love? Well, my answer for you is a word no one likes to talk about much; discipline. In a culture that thrives off self-gratification and a “quick fix,” to exercise self-discipline seems totally unnecessary. Why change my unhealthy lifestyle? Commercials and ads lure us to alternatives that highlight a “lose weight fast” regimen. You want a different career, but you’re not willing to let go of some of your extracurricular activities for the sake of a long-term benefit. You want to get out of debt, but you’re not willing to shave off the extras on your shopping list so you can create a financial status that leaves you less strapped. You want to get married but you aren’t willing to stop engaging in premarital sex long enough to truly get to know and appreciate your potential spouse, or more importantly, you don’t want to the take time to become better yourself. These are all very real issues and I know they are, because I have had to face them myself, and I’ve learned to conquer them with Christ’s help. We all have access to a fulfilled life, but the sad part is that many will wait soo long before they truly get to experience it. My prayer is that God would open your eyes to see how a lack discipline is stifling your growth and keeping you from your best life! We can get soo set in our ways and not realize our best life is available and waiting on us. God has this gift and wants to hand it over to you, but you have to be willing to let go of whatever lack of discipline you are holding on to first.

"Thru discipline comes freedom" - Aristotle

What is it for you? Are you over eating? Over indulging in social media and other forms of entertainment? Lack of discipline to set a Godly standard for your life? Lack of discipline to take care of your household responsibilities? God cares about it all, because He wants us to experience His best in every way! We cannot do life on our own terms and expect to receive the FULL blessing of God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. -Proverbs 3:5-8(NKJV)

A lack of discipline causes us to settle in life for less than what God intends for us. But more importantly, when we do not give God full control of every area, it is sinful and hurts the heart of God. We are not consumed when we sin because of the great mercy of God! But sometimes because God doesn’t consume us in the fire, we forget what landed us there in the first place. Don’t let that be you. Repent! Ask God to forgive you for your lack of discipline. The Holy Spirit will help you as you nourish your spirit daily and commit to each task. One task at a time, one day at a time. I want you to have all God desires for you! I want those dreams and hopes brought to fruition! The choice is yours, daily we must choose discipline. Remember you’re never alone and the end result will be worth the momentary sacrifices you must make. Make time to spend with the Holy Spirit and He will strengthen you with whatever your struggles are. God is waiting on you to give Him the opportunity to make His name great and give you your best life yet!!!

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. -Romans 12:1(NLT)
