Enjoy the Ride

My kids always want to know where we are headed when riding in the car, but often I have several stops and some impromptu stops as well. I know if I try to explain everywhere I am going, they will inevitably get upset if things don’t go exactly as planned. So, often, in their minds, our trips to the store and errands get monotonous. I understand. When I was a kid growing up, I bugged my dad every chance I got and wanted to know the details of where we were headed as soon as we hopped in the car. But my dad in his deep country voice, would calmly say, “Sit back and just enjoy the ride.” It tickles me now when I think back to those days because I realize now, how bothersome I probably got to my Dad after a while. He had a plan. I didn’t need to worry. I was a child and all I had to do was trust in my father’s words.

Although I clearly understand this simple scenario, life as an adult seems, and often is, much more complicated. Lately things aren’t moving in quite the way I think or would like for them to go. I’m constantly being forced to take the route that requires lots of patience, more waiting, and I’m wondering, “Where are you taking me Lord?” I thought we were going this way. But when I think back to my children, or even myself as a little girl, I remember trusting my Heavenly Father must remain constant. Whatever the route our Father takes us has a purpose, whether we like it or not. We don’t need to know all the details in order to enjoy traveling to our destination! Trust that your journey is allowing you to become more deeply rooted in your relationship with God, allowing you to impact others along the way, and that God is working on something beyond your imagination!! When we sit back and enjoy the ride, God gets all the glory. So, stay at peace and put your mind on cruise control. You will get to where God is taking you in His perfect time!

“All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.” -Psalm 25:10
