Lessons Learned

When I look back over my life I am soo grateful for all God has brought me through. And most importantly, how He has opened my “eyes” to see. Allow me to explain. For some time, I was blind and did not desire to see God’s will and His way for me. But when I yielded, God began to show up and allow me to see what steps and directions to take for my life. After sharing a portion of my life’s story with you in previous blogs, I reflected on a few of the lessons that I have learned:

1. There is a God honoring way to do everything.

Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31

When I moved out of my parent’s house, I felt I had to move for various reasons. But regardless of the reasons, the way I left, was dishonoring to my parents. I was disrespectful and insensitive. Whenever you have a situation in life and you feel as if there is “only one way” to handle it, I urge you to pray and take your time. Often times, whenever I feel like I have to do something fast or quickly or there’s only one route I can take, I need to slow down and wait for the Holy Spirit to lead and direct me.

2. Selfishness blinds us to God’s best for us.

Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. - Proverbs 26:12 (ESV)

It’s pretty self-explanatory, I think. If it’s all about you…where is God in the picture??? I mean if you have your plan and nothing is based on Gods voice and His instructions found in His Word, you are headed for trouble!

3. Right is Right & Wrong is Wrong.

“…Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived “

1 Corinthians 6:9a

I love how God saw fit to bless me, my marriage, and my family. But no matter how our life circumstances turn out, when there is sin in our lives, we must address it. We can not make light of sin when we serve a holy God and He desires for us to be holy in our lifestyles. Don’t take for granted the opportunity to build your spiritual and physical endurance by abstaining from sex prior to marriage. God has a reason for everything He says…if you are not being obedient in this area, repent and stop right away. God will be with you and the Holy Spirit will help and empower you. Seek an accountability partner to set yourself up for success!!

4. Continue to move Forward by His grace.

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy...

 - Titus 3:4-7

One of the reasons I believe God tells us not to sin, is because we open ourselves to, and become a target by the enemy. When we sin, we give the enemy insight and access into areas of weakness and he will try to use those things against us if we allow him to. But I am here to remind you and encourage you. We will mess up every time if we are led by and give in to our sinful nature. However, we don’t have to allow the devil to use our minds as a garbage dump!!! You are who God says you are and your destiny is contingent upon Gods promises He has made to you as a child of God.
